Primarily, ASCII$ 24 is intended for viewing SMALL sections of a program when working in an application like Edit©.  Occasionally it's handier to use this font for reference as opposed to using one of the many available DAs, charts, etc.  Sometimes it's also handy when used in conjunction with a DA like MiniWriter© or when working on specialized fonts in  a resource editor.

Every font character is assigned its decimal and hexadecimal equivalent, but depending on the type of editor, application, or DA you're using, a few of the characters may not be visible (even though they're included in the font); also, at least one character always needs to be free.  If this is a problem, you can use ResEdit© to make the appropriate adjustments.

  23. Basically, there are only two major cautions regarding this font:
  24. 1) Its size is large (26688 bytes) so you should experiment on backups of whatever it's being installed in or else you might damage something in case of a stack overflow.
  25. 2) Trying to change a large document or program to this font can severely tax the Mac; it's intended for use on SMALL sections and paragraphs, rather than pages or entire documents.

  27. I've assigned the arbitrary FOND=138; #=17688 to ASCII$ 24 and you should check that this doesn't conflict with any of your other fonts.  
  28. In some instances, you may also need to rename the font (e.g., when writing the font into a program in Modula 2, where the dollar sign [$] is not allowed).  If you find ASCII$ 24 a useful tool, please send $2 to:
